چکیده

chronic venous thromboses were also more common than acute thrombosis. Squizzato et al.1 reported 13 cases of acute cerebral sinus venous thrombosis associated with thyroid disease. The most common etiology of hyperthyroidism was Graves--Basedow disease, and a hypercoagulability state and even vascular compression in the event of large goiter were suggested as a pathogenetic mechanism. In the reported case, autoimmune hyperthyroidism could have been Hashimoto toxicosis instead of Graves--Basedow disease. Both of them may show diffuse hyperuptake at gammagraphy, but the absence of positive TSH receptor antibodies and the good response to antithyroid treatment suggest Hashimoto toxicosis as the first possibility, despite 2. Use of Proton Pump Inhibitors is Associated withSevere Hypomagnesemia in Kidney TransplantRecipients

Hypomagnesemia is common in the early post-transplant period and is often associated with CNI use. PPIs are preferred choice of agents for stress ulcer prophylaxis and have been associated with hypomagnesemia especially when coupled with diuretic use. We postulated that PPI use in the post-transplant setting increases the severity of hypomagnesemia associated with CNI use compared to H2B. A tot...

Oral Selenium in the treatment of refractory severe Atopic dermatitis: Report of 4 cases

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory and pruritic skin disease with a prevalence of 10-20%. Recent studies suggested the effect of selenium on immunoregulation in AD. In this study we report 4 cases of atopic dermatitis according to Hafniin and Rajka criteria. Serum selenium levels were increased and serum total IgE were decreased in all patients. These results show that selenium i...

An Evidence-Based Approach to Clinical Cases

Hypomagnesemia is defined as a serum magnesium level less than 1.8 mg/dL (< 0.74 mmol/L). Hypomagnesemia may result from inadequate magnesium intake, increased gastrointestinal or renal losses, or redistribution from extracellular to intracellular space. Increased renal magnesium loss can result from genetic or acquired renal disorders. Most patients with hypomagnesemia are asymptomatic and sym...
